Training should make your life better, not worse.
It should fit into your life, not be a burden.
And it should always be one of your biggest priorities.
Simple in theory, but hard in practice.
After more than 20 years in the gym and over a decade coaching others, I started Momentum Training Club to show that it’s possible.
Finding My Start
I started training at 15. After leaving hockey behind, I needed something physical to fill the gap.
With no YouTube tutorials and only a few clunky websites and fitness magazines, it was mostly trial and error.
My goal was simple: look like Arnold Schwarzenegger or Ronnie Coleman.
I trained hard, experimented with my diet, and made some progress. Somewhere along the way, I discovered powerlifting.
Training with a group of experienced lifters at a local gym pushed me further than I could have on my own, and eventually I competed on the international stage.
I still cared about looking like I trained, but performance became my obsession.
From CrossFit to Coaching
When I moved to Toronto, I lost my crew. Looking for community, I joined a CrossFit gym back when it was still considered fringe.
The challenge hooked me, but what really kept me there was the people.
In 2015, I opened my first gym. Owning a gym had always been my “lottery dream.”
If I ever hit the jackpot, that’s what I would do.
The gym had already given me so much: friendships, life lessons, and an outlet. I wanted to share that with others.
When the chance came, I jumped, even though I knew little about business and only a bit about coaching.
Over the next 10 years, I honed my craft, became a better coach, met incredible people, and changed countless lives.
It was a dream come true.
Becoming a Dad
Then, in 2023, my wife Sanja and I welcomed our son.
If you’re a parent, you know—everything changes. Suddenly there was no free time, no sleep, and no routines.
Training dropped to the bottom of the list. I didn’t have the luxury of long sessions, pushing until I was sore, or even consistently eating well.
I gained 20 pounds.
When my son started daycare, I finally got a bit of time back, and I knew I needed to use it wisely.
My training had to change. Every workout had to be effective and efficient.
My goal wasn’t to crush myself anymore. I needed training that gave me energy instead of draining it.
My “why” also shifted. Aesthetics and performance used to drive me. Now it was health, longevity, and being a “yes dad.”
Redefining My Why
Health mattered because someone depended on me like never before.
Longevity mattered because I was an older parent than my own had been, and I wanted to run, play, and keep up with my son well into my 50s, and maybe even keep up with grandkids in my 70s and 80s.
And being a “yes dad” meant that whenever my son asked me to play, run, wrestle, or go on adventures, I could say yes—not “maybe later” or “I’m too tired.”
That shift gave me a new framework for training.
And it showed me exactly who I wanted to help: tired, stressed, overworked parents and professionals trying to balance careers, households, and family.
I know how isolating that can feel.
Training isn’t just about strength or aesthetics. It’s about energy, confidence, and realizing you’re not alone in the struggle.
The Start of Momentum Training Club
That’s why I opened Momentum Training Club.
To help people like me—people who want to stay strong, healthy, and capable without letting fitness take over their lives.
If any of this resonates with you, I’d love to connect.
Stop by the gym, send me a message, or let’s grab a coffee.
